about the artist

Margaret Batcheler, Artist
I’ve had many titles in life - wife, mom, director, coach, etc. In my heart I was always an Artist. All influence how I paint and what I paint. I prefer realism over abstract; nature over man-made objects. I primarily work in oils or pastels in an array of subjects ranging from animal portraits to landscapes.
Grew up in Texas which is reflected in many of the landscape works of farm scenes, chickens and cows. In 2015, moved to Tennessee; loved the abundance of farms, beautiful parks, mountains and streams. Prior to TN, spent 8 years in New Hampshire, where I was inspired by the rustic beauty of the countryside, harbors and architecture of New England. End of 2018, we were drawn back to NH to be closer to our adult sons. Bob, my husband, supports my art by taking countless photos of unusual birds, creaky old barns, picturesque farms, clouds, boats in a harbor and on occasion, a friend’s dog. He has also mastered the craft of framing and photographing the final versions of most of my work. So grateful for his amazing support!
Over the past ten years I have been so blessed to have studied under and/or been tutored by several key people worthy of mention:
Jeanne LaChance (NH) my first real teacher as an adult; encourager, developer, motivator and still my mentor. A gifted artist herself, willing to share her abundant knowledge and inspire others to reach for the stars.
Pat Thompson (TN) my first introduction to still life; quiet-spoken and detail oriented, she taught me the value of objects, shapes, shading, and sticking with the subject; something that I still apply.
Kevin Menck (TN) brought me to landscapes of TN. Introduction to plein air painting, TN hay bales, barns, trees, and everything green! Always with a smile...Be bold...follow the light and get'r done! Get paint on that canvas!
Roger Dale Brown (TN) fine tuning those landscapes, color, values; painting movement like water, trees, boats, wind. Introduction to wildlife painting.
Jason Morgan (UK) wildlife world-wide; everything fur, fins, feathers; realism at it's finest! All of God's creatures portrayed in realistic landscape settings. His masterful teaching approach has launched me to new levels of accomplishment in oils and pastels. He has guided me to discover and create my own personal style, balancing realism with a softness.
I find incredible solace and passion in painting. I'm drawn to God's creation. His masterful landscapes and infinite variety of unique animals and birds leaves me in awe! I invite you to take a look at what I’ve been doing.
